This site provides Frederick County Teachers with information about many of your Professional Development needs. The site includes ETM Module 4,  Maryland Teacher Professional Development Initiative, Modules, New Teacher Information, Resources, Questioning, templates, video, Ruby Payne, and vocabulary.

Classroom Resources

The following sites are included to provide resources for everyday classroom needs.

Scoring Guides are important for teachers and students, alike. For teachers, it helps connect the learning activity and assessment. It provides students with an understanding of expectations. (Connection to Standard 3: Technology for Learning and Collaboration for Students- Students will use technology in order to understand the expecations)

 Graphic Organizers are commonly used by teachers. This site provides various printable graphic organizers to meet individual needs.  (Addresses Standard 1:Technology Systems for Students-Understanding and uses of technology and Standard 4: Technology for Communication because students wil be asked to use the created organizers to explain their thinking)

This site provides Free printables, such as flashcards,  theme lesson plans, multilingual handouts for foreign language teachers, worksheets, wordsearches, projects, ESL games, teaching advice, and activities; (Connection to Standard 3: Technology for Learning and Collaboration for Students- Students will use technology to learn new skills)

Online Safety

The following sites can be used to promote safe use of technology for students. The sites can be useful for teachers and also can be shared with parents. They all can also be found on the Frederick County Webpage– http://www.fcps.org/dept/tech/safety.htm

The understanding of Online safety connects with Technology Standard 2 for Students-Digital Citizenship (being ethical, responsible, and safe) As well as Standard 6 for Problem Solving and Decision Making (students will need to use problem solving skills in order to make choices, while using technology)

Get NetWise – Information for adults concerned with child safety on the web.  Computer viruses and ways to prevent spam are discussed.

Kid Safe Search Sites – Large collection of links to sites, indexes, search engines, and information on Web safety.

Stay Safe Online – Information about child safety on the Internet, with tips on how to guard your computer from viruses and hacker attacks.  Provides a self-test to check your computer’s vulnerability.

WebWise Kids – Links to safe sites, news of current Internet safety legislation and conferences, plus smart rules of Internet safety.

FCPS Technology Plan

Frederick County has created a 3 year technology plan to “ensure successful and effective use of Technology.”

The Sections of the Document include the following:

Section IV: Integrate the Most Appropriate and Effective Technology and Digital Content

Section V: Assess Plan and the Impact of Technology

Maryland Technology Standards for Students

Technology literacy is the ability of an individual, working independently and with others, to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technology tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information.“- Working definition of technology literacy (http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/techlit/)

Maryland has 6 Technology Literacy Standards for students. The following link can be used to find out more about each standard for Pre-K through 8th grade. It is important that teachers be familiar with these Literacy Standards because they are now apart of the Maryland State Voluntary Curriculum.

Maryland Technology Standards for Teachers

 

Maryland Technology Standards for Teachers    

  1. Access, Evaluation, Processing, and Application (Teachers will access various Internet resources for professional development, such as viewing Inspiration and Photo Story training videos, and then they will apply what they have learned in their own classrooms)
  2. Communication (Teachers will be able to use technology to communicate information, such as creating and posting questions on programs such as CPS)
  3. Legal, Social and Ethical Issues (Teachers will demonstrate an understanding of these issue by becoming more aware of the issues and how to handle them, example of a site to use with students)
  4. Assessment for Administration and Instruction (Teachers have used CPS and Examview to analyze student progress and develop data-driven solutions for instructional and school improvement)
  5. Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction (Teachers have implemented and assessed learning experiences that incorporate use of technology in the math instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem-solving, or collaboration)
  6. Assisting Technologies (Teachers have provided equal oppportunities for all students using technology in the classroom. They have provided guidance for those who have not have the same amount of experience on computers and guidance to those who needed more support.)
  7. Professional Growth (The training on CPS will allow teachers the opportunity to learn new technology tools )
